Brendan Whitecross

November 9th, 2007

Brendan Whitecross – Zillmere/Queensland
Ht: 182 cm Wt: 79 kg
Junior position – BP / Midfield
AFL position – BP / HBF
Whitecross is another of the AIS Academy players from Qld. Despite being a bottom aged player he is someone who his team mates look to lead the way and expect to create something. At junior level when he moves position the line he moves to visibly lifts. He is a long accurate kick off either foot and he has good skills generally. He has good vision and usually gives it to his team mates in the best position to do damage. He is a very composed player who seems to have time when in he has the ball. He is a very solid player given his age and looks like he could develop into a very powerful player. He is not particularly pacy or athletic but he seems to cover the ground well and uses his strength well in the contest. His good performance in the midfield for the Allies will also keep him in focus for a lot of teams. 15.1 on the beep test at camp is also going to make a lot of people think that there might be midfield potential in Brendan which will help him.
Strengths: His kicking and ability to quarterback a side from the back will make him a very attractive prospect to teams. He is strong and as a bottom aged player he has plenty of development in him. He looks like a class player and he has a good football brain.
Weaknesses: He could be more athletic and needs to build his endurance to get to AFL standard even for a backman.
Question marks: Some have questioned his decision making after a couple of the Championship games. Will be bulk up too much?
Draft Prediction: 25 - 45
