Cyril Rioli

November 21st, 2007

Cyril Rioli – St. Mary’s/Northern Territory
Ht: 178 cm Wt: 74 kg

Junior position – Midfield / Forward

AFL position – Forward / Midfield

Considered by some to be as talented as anyone in this draft. He has superb skills off either foot and he has good distance on his kicks and he regularly will pick out his man in stride and too advantage. He has great vision, reads play extremely well both in the midfield and up forward and he invariably takes the best option for his team. He is quick (3rd in the repeat sprint at Camp), moves well and has great balance managing to keep his feet and evade tackles with seeming ease. Up forward he is very dangerous as evidenced by his 7 goals against Qld at the Champs. He uses his pace well up forward and reads the ball of packs well. His hands are good for a small guy and he is very much a one touch player. Despite all the positives he is considered a higher risk than other prospects. He has been carrying injuries for much of the year and is carrying more weight and less condition than ideal for him at this stage. Questions have also been asked whether he has the dedication to make the most of his talent.

Strengths: On field he is the complete package – great skills, pace, vision, football intelligence and very good around goal.
Weaknesses: At 178 he is on the short side.

Question marks: Does he want it enough? Will there be lingering injury issues?

Draft Prediction: 5-10
