David Hill
November 21st, 2007David Hill – Zillmere/Queensland
Ht: 202 cm Wt: 85 kg
Junior position – Ruck
AFL position – Ruck
His invite to camp was a surprise to many given that he struggled at the Champs and since. Clubs obviously remember some of his work from earlier in the year and especially in the Challenge Cup were he performed well. As a bottom aged ruck there is certainly a lot to like but more so there is plenty for Hill to work on. He is very light at the moment and does not have the strength to match it with even the older rucks at junior level. His tap work is only average and he struggles to establish and maintain position and even when he does the taps are rarely down the throat of his onballers. He moves nicely around the field and has good mobility and agility for a big guy. Disposal wise his skills are okay but he doesn’t get a huge amount of it at this stage.
Strengths: He has very nice size and potentially may not be finished growing yet. As a bottom aged ruck there is still a lot of developing left in him. His mobility is above average for a ruck.
Weaknesses: He is very thin at the moment and he needs a lot of time in the gym to build up both bulk and strength. At the moment he does not handle stronger ruckmen and that is basically everyone in the AFL
Question marks: With the abundance of rucks available this year are there too many holes to consider Hill this year?
Draft Prediction: undrafted.
