Joseph Daye

November 9th, 2007

Joseph DayeZillmere/Queensland
Ht: 194 cm Wt: 79 kg
Junior position – Wing / HB
AFL position – He will be looked at as a long term KP prospect
Daye is someone who just might go quite a bit earlier than a lot of people expect. On the field he looks like you would expect a footballer to look. He is long, lean and athletic and he has a long graceful stride. The fact that he also has a booming flat left foot (50+ with ease), is bottom aged and apparently still growing is going to intrigue a lot of teams and someone might just decide to take him off the board earlier rather than risk losing him. The reason why he is not getting talked about more is that despite the package he has yet to put it all together. He doesn’t really have a position yet, he has no right foot to speak of and generally his skills need a lot of work. He is a definite work in progress but one with enormous potential. The fact that he is a current AIS Academy player will also help his prospects as will his recent good game for the Allies.
Strengths: Daye has top shelf athleticism and should figure at the top in a few categories at draft camp testing. His kicking is also a thing of beauty and is his other major strength. Teams will be looking at his kicking as a long term answer to their kicking concerns.
Weaknesses: He is very raw at the moment and his skill set needs a lot of work to get to AFL standard. He doesn’t have a position at the moment other than running around wherever he likes on the wing. He needs more discipline in his game..
Question marks: Will he ever be anything other than a gifted athlete with a big left foot?
Draft Prediction: 30 – 45
