Details:
Club: Modewarre
DOB: 13 December 1985 Hgt: 194cm Wgt: 94kg
Position: Centre Half Forward
Natural Foot: Right
Strengths: After much wooing by Geelong CEO Brian Cook, the son of all-time great Gary Ablett has finally been convinced to join the Cats in 2005.
Nathan is probably more like his father than his brother Gary junior, playing as a key forward for Modewarre just outside of Geelong. He reportedly has all the skills and athleticism required to make it at AFL level and many people consider him just as talented as his brother. He is a good mark, quick and can kick on either side of the body.
Weaknesses: I guess the real query over Nathan will be his commitment and ability to handle the inevitable pressure that will come as an Ablett playing for Geelong. He has had little exposure at elite level and may take quite some time to adjust.
Footydraft.com comment: It's a great story for the Cats and there is no doubt at all that Nathan has the talent to be a very good AFL player. Whether he reaches his potential may come down to Geelong's handling of him.
