Rees Thomas

Details:
Club: Scoresby/Oakleigh
DOB: 31 December 1987 Hgt: 193cm Wgt: 81kg
Position: Centre Half Forward
Natural Foot: Right

Honours:
- Vic Metro U18 2005
- Victorian State Screening 2005

Statistics:
2004 TAC Cup: 11 games, 9 goals, average 5.8 PPG
2005 TAC Cup: 14 games, 11 goals, average 14.6 PPG
2005 U18 Championships: 3 games, 1 goal, average 6.7 PPG

Background: Also a talented junior cricketer who played Victoria earlier this year, Thomas played for the Oakleigh Chargers and represented Vic Metro this season. Playing a role predominantly across half forward, he was also used as a ruck option both up forward and as back up in the centre of the ground. Regarded as a hard working forward, his presenting time and again up the ground saw him pull in an average of close to seven marks a game. Still needs to add more weight and strength, but is a very young top age player having been born on the last day of 1987.

Strengths:
- Constantly presenting time and time again so work rate is first rate
- Gets a fair way up the ground and marks on the lead (average 6.9 marks per game in TAC Cup 2005)
- Good endurance

Weaknesses:
– Kicking
– body strength, at this stage can go to ground too easily. Needs another 6-8kg.
– Slow acceleration off the mark/running style

Footydraft.com Verdict: Fairly important he has an impressive screening session. On work ethic alone he deserves a chance at AFL level, but clubs will be keen to see how he tests in the speed and strength tests. Probably more likely to go after pick 50, or get a chance as a rookie.
